January 20th Sedition Newsletter
Hey y'all,
Good news! Sedition's wireless is up and running, so feel free to come by the infoshop and use the free internet hookup and have a cup of coffee or a cold drink!
A quick newsletter today to remind you of upcoming events at Sedition Books. As a reminder you can always check out our calendar for more info about events at: www.seditionbooks.org
We have some exciting events coming up --notably the Palestine 101 presentation on Wednesday and the planning meeting to kick off a new anti-war movement in this town on the 31st.
As always, Sedition is run on a shoestring budget and we always need donations to keep us going. (For example, We would love a donated computer for a public access terminal in the space.)

Palestine 101 - an introduction to the conflict in Palestine/Israel
A workshop giving some context to the current conflict in Gaza from a radical social justice perspective
Featuring:
Hadeel Assali, organizer of the Houston Palestine Film Festival and long time Palestine Solidarity Activist
Ala Alazzeh, graduate student of anthropology at Rice University and Palestinian Activist
Israel's attacks on the Gaza strip have killed more than 1,000 people.
World governments are sitting on their hands--refusing to intervene.
If you are trying to figure out what the hell is going on by consuming mainstream American Media, you are probably very confused.
Students for a Democratic Society-UH have invited some local Palestinian organizers and scholars to break down the history and social geography to help explain how it has resulted in this situation. They will also help chart a path towards justice and peace in Palestine. Following the presentation we'll have questions and a discussion about what can be done locally.

Rising Tide Houston and Global Justice for Animals & the Environment present a screening of:
A Really Inconvenient Truth
In this film, "eco-socialist" professor Joel Kovel takes on Al Gore's reformist, pro-capitalist climate activism; and explains some of the ways our current economic system is inherently unsustainable.
"What is 'really inconvenient' is the truth that global warming is directly related to the uncontrolled growth of the dominant world capitalist system. Joel Kovel insists that we need to transform the basic social dynamics that lead to cancerous production and mindless consumption.
